A little lesson in art, imagination, and discovering. This little kitchen lesson invites children to explore the world of Vincent van Gogh through the simple joy of making an apple galette. Inspired by the colors, textures, and movement found in his paintings, children bring art into the kitchen as they slice apples, arrange them over buttery pastry, and create something beautiful of their own.
Think of this lesson as the starting point for a whole week of learning. Inside, you'll find a step by step lesson plan, an apple galette recipe, teaching prompts, and ideas for extending the experience through art, literature, science, math, and seasonal exploration. Designed for a range of ages, this lesson encourages children to look closely, experiment with color and composition, and discover the connection between creativity and cooking. It’s my lesson to your table, and a little reminder that art isn't only something we hang on the wall; it can be something we make, share, and taste, too.
