A little lesson in noticing, tasting, and discovering. This little kitchen lesson invites children into the simple joy of making homemade applesauce, turning an everyday autumn fruit into an opportunity to explore the senses, seasonal changes, and the transformation of food. From washing and chopping apples to watching them soften on the stovetop, children discover how a few simple ingredients can become something entirely new.
Think of this lesson as the starting point for a whole week of learning. Inside, you'll find a step by step lesson plan, a homemade applesauce recipe, teaching prompts, and ideas for extending the experience through literature, science, math, sensory exploration, and nature study. Designed for a range of ages, this lesson encourages children to slow down, get their hands involved, and find the little discoveries hiding in an ordinary kitchen activity.
